Steven Pearl won the cross country race, putting him in the overall lead in the WCCC omnium.
HSU Cycling dominates the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference after two weeks of collegiate mountain bike racing. The team is ranked number one above all Division I and II teams, and now HSU riders Steven Pearl and Katelyn Hill are also at the top of the charts. Pearl earned the yellow points leader’s jersey after racing at Sky Tavern on Sept. 28 and 29, winning the men’s A cross country race and placing top ten in the downhill and dual slalom.
Hill is the women’s points leader for a second week after winning the women’s A cross country race at Sky Tavern, but this week she is tied with Essence Barton of Cal Lutheran for that title.
This is the first time the team and its riders have been ranked number one in the three most prestigious conference rankings– shutting out all other schools from the top spots.
Next weekend, the team races in Salinas.
The WCCC website displays the leaders each week. This is the first time ever that HSU Cycling has dominated all three positions at the same time.
