HSU’s nationals team raced well but had some bad luck during Saturday’s criterium at the Collegiate Cycling National Championships in Ogden, Utah. Hayley Umayam finished 13th and Traci Kroll 26th in the women’s Div. II hour-long criterium. It was Umayam’s first time at nationals.

Nate Abel finished 54th in a field of 81 riders in a 75-minute crash-filled crit on wide city streets in the shadows of the Wasatch Mountains. Luke Ramseth was riding strong, showing promise to finish with the top contenders but was caught in a crash on the last lap. At that point, riders were flying through the finish straight at about 30-miles-per-hour. He was not seriously hurt.

On Sunday, the four HSU cyclists will compete in the road race around Pineview Reservoir. The men will race 128 kilometers and the women 101.
