Amgen Tour of California Road Trip

By Luke Ramseth

Somehow my friend Nate and I scored press passes to the biggest American bike race, the Tour of California. (Actually our journalism professor Vicky Sama hooked us up, and encouraged us to go for it.)

We made the six hour trek from Arcata through some snow and ice to get to my house, outside of Sacramento.

And here we are, ready to road trip the entire state for as cheap as possible, and hopefully get some footage for a documentary along the way. We’ll try and keep you updated on not just the race itself, but our daily goings-on.

As far as the race goes, it’s being called the best field of racers ever assembled on American soil. The “roid boys,” aka Floyd Landis, Ivan Basso, and oh yeah Lance Armstrong himself are all coming back for this one, so it should be full of drama. Two-time champion Levi Leipheimer is back to defend his title as well.

It kicked off with the prologue today in Sacramento, which had an estimated 100,000 fans on the 2.5 mile course. We’ll keep you posted.

I have been following your blog like Travis Bickle followed Cybil Sheperd in Martin Scorcesse’s Taxi Driver. I have been running home everyday to get the latest update from the cycling voice of Humbolt County.

You are the true renegades, enjoying your youth following one of the most exciting events of the year. Your professor must have great insight to send you on such an epic adventure. I went to Paris-Roubaix in 1998 and will never forget that day.

Please keep the excellent updates coming. Velonews, move a side there is a new cycling voice on the net.
