HSU Cycling is hosting its annual collegiate mountain bike races. This year’s venue is beautiful Whiskeytown Lake, Calif., located just west of Redding on the CA299. The new venue will offer significantly dryer conditions than Humboldt county’s usual damp environment and is more accessible to the conference compared to past Humboldt State cycling events, located just off I-5. Whiskeytown is a classic northern California mountain bike destination that has it’s place in history as the venue for the infamous Whiskeytown Downhill back in the early days of mountain biking. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Campsite options include Sheep Camp, Brandy Creek Campground, Peltier Campground and Horse Camp. To pay for the camping, which is inexpensive, you must submit necessary information and payments at the visitor center upon entering the park. Reservations are also available and can be made at Oak Bottom Campground, which is on the other side of the lake from the races.
